FAQ

What is a Retroactive Date?

A retroactive date determines or defines when coverage begins. For example, when a claims-made policy is first written, the retroactive date is usually the policy's effective date. As successive claims made policies are written, the original retroactive date is generally carried forward. If no retroactive date is indicated, the insured is granted full prior acts coverage. The retroactive date will usually be indicated on the Declarations Page of your policy or if you have full prior acts, no date will be indicated.
