How do I report a claim?
What is a claim?
A claim is a demand made upon any insured for loss, as defined in each of the coverage units, including, but not limited to, service of suit or institution of arbitration proceedings or administrative proceedings against any insured.
What is a potential claim?
A potential claim is any act, error, omission, circumstance or personal injury which might reasonably be expected to give rise to a claim against any insured under the policy; or any breach of duty to a client or third party which has not resulted in a claim against an insured.
What if you are not sure if you have a claim and/or potential claim?
If you want to discuss a matter, you can call the Malpractice Hotline at 1-800-257-4449. This number will put you in touch with a Pennsylvania law firm and permit you to discuss the matter confidential with an attorney who is experienced in defending lawyers against malpractice claims. The Hotline is:

Please note, use of this Hotline will not be considered notice of claim as required under your Westport policy. Also, use of the Hotline does not change any of the other provisions of the policy.
When and how do you report a claim?
Claims must be reported during the policy period in which they are made or sixty (60) days after the current policy expiration date.
Claims must be reported directly to Westport Insurance Corporation by submitting a letter explaining the claim, along with a copy of any legal papers you may have been served with to the following:

What would happen if you do not report a claim?
Failure to report a claim, as directed above, could result in Westport denying coverage for the claim.
